The Arkansas Association of Oriental Medicine or (ARAOM) was formed in 1991 to be the unifying force for Arkansas acupuncturists committed to high ethical and educational standards, and a well-regulated profession to ensure the safety of the public.

Dr Janice Vigh, Dr Jackie Pierra and Dr Renee Sparrow were the first practicing Doctors of Oriental medicine DOM in Arkansas. They organized the 1st professional association in Arkansas and succeeded in enrolling it as a state chapter of the American Association of Oriental Medicine.

Before licensure existed The Arkansas Association of Oriental Medicine was diligent in maintain public safety. ARAOM also recruited Doctors of Oriental Medicine to the state to ensure public access to needed Alternative Medicine health care.

The ARAOM was instrumental in passing the Acupuncture and related techniques practice act of 1997. The residents of Arkansas enjoy access to advanced Oriental Medicine care. Presently only three states have Oriental Medicine practice acts. Arkansas, West Virginia, and New Mexico. Arkansas Legislation is used as a template by other states as they advance their Acupuncture practice acts and enact Oriental Medicine laws.

The ARAOM is open to public membership and has a maintained a growing public membership of several hundred associates.

  • Helped sponsor first state approved professional doctorate 4000 hour residential Doctoral level Oriental Medical School.
